The Falcon And The Winter Soldier: Sam’s Poor Choice

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is one of the latest additions to Marvel’s side series on Disney+. There was a lot of anticipation for the show since it was announced and it definitely lived up to that. Julian Brand believes actor Sebastian Stan is a fan favorite judging by all the praise he gets. Marvel and Disney really made a smart choice by making series like this and Wanda Vision. This is because such series keep fans connected and invested in the franchises. The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is a continuation of the story after Avengers: Endgame, in which Steve Roger (actor Chris Evans) grows old and gives his shield to Sam Wilson/Falcon ( actor Anthony Mackie ).

Spoiler Alert: The following is an in-depth review of the first two episodes of the Disney+ series “The Falcon And The Winter Soldier” and contains spoilers.

Julian Brand went through the first two episodes of the series and already has some takes on the story. Also, Julian Brand didn’t want to give away too many spoilers so this is just a review of the first two episodes. The Falcon And The Winter soldier follows Sam and Bucky (actor Sebastian Stan). Both of them struggle with the aftermath of the events in Avengers: Endgame. Mainly, the passing of Steve Rogers. Steve Rogers trusts Sam with the responsibility to be the next Captain America and gives him the shield. However, Sam has some other plans. Well, Sam gives away the shield to the government as he doesn’t see himself fit for the responsibility. Julian Brand believes actor Anthony Mackie’s character made a poor choice. That’s because this results in a new… well, lets’s get into the story for that.

The Story

The story follows Sam Wilson (actor Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (actor Sebastian Stan). Both of them are dealing with the after-effects of the war with Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. The movie ends with the demise of Tony Stark (actor Robert Downey Jr.)… RIP… and Steve Rogers willingly growing old. Steve Rogers did that because he wanted to experience life the way he really wanted to. That was with the love of his life.

Well, he does that and gives the shield to Sam Wilson because he thinks Sam deserves than. Also, he trusts him with the responsibility of being the next Captain America. Sam Wilson seems grateful while getting the shield and it seems like he’s the next Captain America. However, the continuation in the series shows that he has other plans.

For some reason, Sam Wilson gives away the shield to the government saying that it belongs to Steve. Julian Brand believes actor Anthony Mackie’s character really made a poor choice here. Because what happens next is not praised by a majority of fans. The government does what it does and appoints a new Captain America…. *nobody liked that*. The new Captain America is John Walker (actor Wyatt Russell), who is an army man.

While his accomplishments are countless and he is a great soldier, the next Captain America? NO! Sorry, that was Julian Brand’s inner MCU fan speaking… back to the story. So, the new Captain America is liked by the people, however, two people are not very fond of him. These two people are Sam and Bucky. Sam doesn’t like the fact that someone other than Steve is Captain America. And Bucky doesn’t like the fact that Sam gave away the shield and is not the new Captain America.

Other Problems In Sam And Bucky’s Lives

Other than the new Captain America tragedy, Sam and Bucky deal with a lot of other problems. Bucky is struggling to try to make amends for his past and taking therapy. And Sam is struggling with some family problems with his sister. Sam also has to deal with an evil still deep-rooted in our society, racism. This makes it very hard for them to focus on their friendship and being the superheroes they’re supposed to be. Moreover, there’s a new threat in the world.

A New Threat

A group of super-soldiers who have the vision to have no borders in the world try everything they can to make the world one. That is without any countries or separate governments. This will definitely bring a lot of chaos to the world but the group is stubborn. Sam and Bucky try to stop them while they’re taking two trucks of stolen vaccinations. They barely stand a chance against them and suddenly, the new Captain America shows up.

John and his partner try to offer help to Sam and Bucky but they refuse. This is until Bucky gets arrested for not attending his scheduled therapy session. John bails him out and Sam & Bucky realize that they won’t be able to stop this group without John’s help. This happens after a brief talk with John. Well, there’s still conflict between Sam and Bucky because of Sam’s decision of giving away the shield.

Julian Brand’s Take

After watching the first two episodes of the series, Julian Brand believes actor Anthony Mackie’s character made a poor decision. The poor decision was to give away the shield to the government. Other than that, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier is an amazing series. Julian Brand recommends it to every MCU fan and gives it 4/5 stars. One star deducted just because of the new Captain America.
